*“WHEN THE WORD IS HEAVY, BUT OBEDIENCE IS HOLY”*

(1 Samuel 3:15–21)

சாமுவேல் விடியற்காலமட்டும் படுத்திருந்து,கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயக்கதவுகளைத் திறந்தான். சாமுவேல் ஏலிக்கு அந்தத் தரிசனத்தை அறிவிக்கப் பயந்தான். 

1 சாமுவேல் 3:15

ஏலியோ: சாமுவேலே, என் மகனே என்று சாமுவேலைக் கூப்பிட்டான். அவன் இதோ, இருக்கிறேன் என்றான். 

1 சாமுவேல் 3:16

அப்பொழுது அவன்: கர்த்தர் உன்னிடத்தில் சொன்ன காரியம் என்ன? எனக்கு அதை மறைக்கவேண்டாம். அவர் உன்னிடத்தில் சொன்ன சகல காரியத்திலும் யாதொன்றை எனக்கு மறைத்தாயானால், தேவன் உனக்கு அதற்குச் சரியாகவும் அதற்கு அதிகமாகவும் செய்வாராக என்றான். 

1 சாமுவேல் 3:17

அப்பொழுது சாமுவேல் ஒன்றையும் அவனுக்கு மறைக்காமல், அந்தக் காரியங்களையெல்லாம் அவனுக்கு அறிவித்தான். அதற்கு அவன்: அவர் கர்த்தர். அவர் தமது பார்வைக்கு நலமானதைச் செய்வாராக என்றான். 

1 சாமுவேல் 3:18

சாமுவேல் வளர்ந்தான். கர்த்தர் அவனுடனேகூட இருந்தார். அவர் தம்முடைய எல்லா வார்த்தைகளிலும் ஒன்றையாகிலும் தரையிலே விழுந்துபோக விடவில்லை. 

1 சாமுவேல் 3:19

சாமுவேல் கர்த்தருடைய தீர்க்கதரிசிதான் என்று தாண் முதல் பெயெர்செபா மட்டுமுள்ள சகல இஸ்ரவேலருக்கும் விளங்கினது. 

1 சாமுவேல் 3:20

கர்த்தர் பின்னும் சீலோவிலே தரிசனம் தந்தருளினார். கர்த்தர் சீலோவிலே தம்முடைய வார்த்தையினாலே சாமுவேலுக்குத் தம்மை வெளிப்படுத்தினார் 

1 சாமுவேல் 3:21

*INTRODUCTION – FROM RARE WORD TO REVEALED WORD*

This chapter begins with a frightening statement: 

“The word of the LORD was rare in those days.”

சாமுவேல் என்னும் பிள்ளையாண்டான் ஏலிக்கு முன்பாகக் கர்த்தருக்குப் பணிவிடை செய்துகொண்டிருந்தான். அந்நாட்களிலே கர்த்தருடைய வசனம் அபூர்வமாயிருந்தது. பிரத்தியட்சமான தரிசனம் இருந்ததில்லை. 

1 சாமுவேல் 3:1

And the child Samuel ministered unto the LORD before Eli. And the word of the LORD was precious in those days; there was no open vision. 

1 Samuel 3:1

It ends with a glorious declaration: 

“The LORD appeared again… by the word of the LORD.”

கர்த்தர் பின்னும் சீலோவிலே தரிசனம் தந்தருளினார். கர்த்தர் சீலோவிலே தம்முடைய வார்த்தையினாலே சாமுவேலுக்குத் தம்மை வெளிப்படுத்தினார்

What happened in between?

God found one obedient heart willing to carry a heavy word.

1. *SAMUEL LAY TILL MORNING – FAITHFUL IN SMALL DUTIES (v.15)*

சாமுவேல் விடியற்காலமட்டும் படுத்திருந்து,கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயக்கதவுகளைத் திறந்தான். சாமுவேல் ஏலிக்கு அந்தத் தரிசனத்தை அறிவிக்கப் பயந்தான். 

1 சாமுவேல் 3:15

Samuel did not run away after receiving the vision.

He lay until morning.

He opened the doors of the house of the LORD.

Though the tabernacle had a curtain, Scripture shows that at Shiloh it was housed within a permanent structure.

1 Chronicles 9:27 

காவல் அவர்களுக்கு ஒப்புவித்திருந்தபடியால் அவர்கள் தேவாலயத்தைச் சுற்றிலும் இராத்தங்கியிருந்து, காலமே கதவுகளைத் திறந்துவிடுவார்கள். 

1 நாளாகமம் 9:27

> And they lodged round about the house of God, because the charge was upon them, and the opening thereof every morning pertained to them.

2 Samuel 7:2 

ராஜா தீர்க்கதரிசியாகிய நாத்தானை நோக்கி: பாரும், கேதுருமரங்களால் செய்யப்பட்ட வீட்டிலே நான் வாசம்பண்ணும்போது, தேவனுடைய பெட்டி திரைகளின் நடுவே வாசமாயிருக்கிறதே என்றான். 

2 சாமுவேல் 7:2

> That the king said unto Nathan the prophet, See now, I dwell in an house of cedar, but the ark of God dwelleth within curtains.

A house with doors is implied

👉 Truth:

Even after hearing a terrifying prophecy, 

Samuel remained faithful in routine obedience.

God entrusts revelation to those who don’t abandon responsibility.

2. *THE FEAR OF SPEAKING GOD’S WORD (v.15)*

சாமுவேல் விடியற்காலமட்டும் படுத்திருந்து,கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயக்கதவுகளைத் திறந்தான். சாமுவேல் ஏலிக்கு அந்தத் தரிசனத்தை அறிவிக்கப் பயந்தான். 

1 சாமுவேல் 3:15

Samuel feared to show Eli the vision.

This was human fear, not rebellion.

Many servants of God know what to preach, but fear who will hear it.

John the Baptist feared no king

Jesus openly rebuked Herod calling him fox

Jeremiah cried, “I am only a child” (Jer 1),

yet God sent him anyway

Jeremiah 1:6  

அப்பொழுது நான்: ஆ கர்த்தராகிய ஆண்டவரே, இதோ, நான் பேச அறியேன், சிறுபிள்ளையாயிருக்கிறேன் என்றேன். 

எரேமியா 1:6

> Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child.

👉 Truth:

The burden of God’s word is often heavier than the act of speaking it.

Samuel feared not because he doubted God—but because Eli was a giant in Israel.

3. *ELI – A MAN WHO KNEW BUT DID NOT ACT*

Eli calls Samuel “my son.”

Tender words—but weak obedience.

Eli already knew what was coming.

God had:

Warned him through a man of God (1 Sam 2)

1 Samuel 2:27  

அதற்கு யோவாப்: இன்று காலமே நீர் பேசாதிருந்தீரானால் ஜனங்கள் அவரவர் தங்கள் சகோதரரைப் பின்தொடராமல், அப்போதே திரும்பிவிடுவார்கள் என்று தேவனுடைய ஜீவனைக்கொண்டு சொல்லுகிறேன் என்றான். 

2 சாமுவேல் 2:27

> And there came a man of God unto Eli, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Did I plainly appear unto the house of thy father, when they were in Egypt in Pharaoh's house?

Given him time to repent

Shown him the sin clearly

Yet he did nothing.

👉 Painful truth:

Revelation without repentance only increases judgment.

The situation would never have reached Samuel if Eli had acted earlier.

4. *“THAT ONE THING” GOD IS NOT HAPPY WITH*

Just like:

> Revelation 2:4 – “I have this one thing against you”

ஆனாலும், நீ ஆதியில் கொண்டிருந்த அன்பை விட்டாய் என்று உன்பேரில் எனக்குக் குறை உண்டு. 

வெளிப்படுத்தினத விசேஷம் 2:4

Remember → Repent → Do the first works

In every life, there is often one unchecked thing:

One compromise

One affection

One disobedience

That one thing corrupts everything else.

Eli loved Hophni and Phinehas more than the LORD.

👉 Usually, the accused already knows.

5. *WHEN OBEDIENCE STOPS, GOD STOPS SPEAKING*

Eli once had the word.

But he did not keep it.

John 14 -21

என் கற்பனைகளைப் பெற்றுக்கொண்டு அவைகளைக் கைக்கொள்ளுகிறவனே என்னிடத்தில் அன்பாயிருக்கிறான், என்னிடத்தில் அன்பாயிருக்கிறவன் என் பிதாவுக்கு அன்பாயிருப்பான், நானும் அவனில் அன்பாயிருந்து, அவனுக்கு என்னை வெளிப்படுத்துவேன் என்றார். 

யோவான் 14:21

> “He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them…” 

Having the word is not enough.

Keeping the word brings:

More revelation

More instruction

More opportunities to obey

👉 The tragedy:

Eli had commandments—but not obedience.

6. *GOD CHOOSES THE LEAST*

Eli means “lofty.”

Samuel was small, young, insignificant.

God bypassed the lofty and chose the lowly.

The least Levite.

A miniature priest.

A child in the house of God.

👉 God does not look for status—He looks for surrender.

7. *RESIGNATION IS NOT REPENTANCE*

Eli says: “It is the LORD; let Him do what seems good.”

Sounds spiritual—but it is passive resignation.

Compare:

Aaron (Lev 10:3) – silent, no repentance

அப்பொழுது மோசே ஆரோனை நோக்கி: என்னிடத்தில் சேருகிறவர்களால் நான் பரிசுத்தம் பண்ணப்பட்டு, சகல ஜனங்களுக்கும் முன்பாக நான் மகிமைப்படுவேன் என்று கர்த்தர் சொன்னது இதுதான் என்றான், ஆரோன் பேசாதிருந்தான். 

லேவியராகமம் 10:3

Hezekiah – “Good is the word of the LORD,” but no pleading

They accepted judgment but refused repentance.

When given three choices (2 Sam 24), 

இவ்விதமாய் ஜனங்களை எண்ணின பின்பு, ராஜாவின் இருதயம் அவனை வாதித்தது. அப்பொழுது தாவீது கர்த்தரை நோக்கி: நான் இப்படிச் செய்ததினால் பெரிய பாவஞ்செய்தேன். இப்போதும் ஆண்டவரே, உமது அடியானின் அக்கிரமத்தை நீக்கிவிடும். நான் மகா புத்தியீனமாய்ச் செய்தேன் என்றான். 

2 சாமுவேல் 24:10

தாவீது காலமே எழுந்திருந்தபோது, தாவீதின் ஞானதிருஷ்டிக்காரனாகிய காத் என்னும் தீர்க்கதரிசிக்குக் கர்த்தருடைய வார்த்தை உண்டாகிச் சொன்னது: 

2 சாமுவேல் 24:11

நீ தாவீதினிடத்தில் போய், மூன்று காரியங்களை உனக்கு முன்பாக வைக்கிறேன், அவைகளில் ஒரு காரியத்தைத் தெரிந்து கொள்;, அதை நான் உனக்குச் செய்வேன் என்று கர்த்தர் உரைக்கிறார் என்று சொல் என்றார். 

2 சாமுவேல் 24:12

அப்படியே காத் தாவீதினிடத்தில் வந்து, அவனை நோக்கி: உம்முடைய தேசத்தில் ஏழு வருடங்கள் பஞ்சம் வரவேண்டுமோ? அல்லது மூன்று மாதம் உம்முடைய சத்துருக்கள் உம்மைப் பின்தொடர, நீர் அவர்களுக்கு முன்பாக ஓடிப் போகவேண்டுமோ? அல்லது உம்முடைய தேசத்திலே மூன்று நாள் கொள்ளைநோய் உண்டாகவேண்டுமோ? இப்போதும் என்னை அனுப்பினவருக்கு நான் என்ன மறுஉத்தரவு கொண்டுபோக வேண்டும் என்பதை நீர் யோசித்துப்பாரும் என்று சொன்னான். 

2 சாமுவேல் 24:13

அப்பொழுது தாவீது காத்தை நோக்கி: கொடிய இடுக்கணில் அகப்பட்டிருக்கிறேன். இப்பொழுது நாம் கர்த்தருடைய கையில் விழுவோமாக. அவருடைய இரக்கங்கள் மகா பெரியது. மனுஷர் கையில் விழாதிருப்பேனாக என்றான். 

2 சாமுவேல் 24:14

David cried:

“Let us fall into the hands of the LORD, for 

His mercies are great.”

Eli should have fallen into God’s hands, not folded his hands.

8. *SAMUEL – A TRUSTED MOUTHPIECE (v.19–20)*

Samuel told Eli everything.

He hid nothing.

Added nothing.

Altered nothing.

“The LORD let none of his words fall to the ground.”

God established him.

All Israel—from Dan to Beersheba—recognized him.

👉 He sought God’s approval, not man’s applause.

9. *GOD RETURNS WHEN THE WORD IS HONORED (v.21)*

கர்த்தர் பின்னும் சீலோவிலே தரிசனம் தந்தருளினார். கர்த்தர் சீலோவிலே தம்முடைய வார்த்தையினாலே சாமுவேலுக்குத் தம்மை வெளிப்படுத்தினார் 

1 சாமுவேல் 3:21

The chapter begins with:

Word rare

It ends with:

God appearing again

God revealing Himself by the Word

👉 When God finds one faithful listener, He breaks His silence.

*CONCLUSION – A HEART-RENDING CALL*

This is not merely Samuel’s story.

It is a warning to:

Leaders who know but don’t act

Believers who hear but delay

Servants who fear people more than God

There is always that one thing.

Name it.

Repent of it.

Return to first works.

Because when obedience returns—

the Word returns.
